How did you get into the field that you are in today?
Being from Memphis it was alot going on when I was growing up, I’ve always wrote and jotted down stuff I was going through as a kid and adolescent to cope with having to go through it. I’d express the hurt I was feeling from the loss of loved ones from death, to incarceration, to Abandonment, & to the streets. I didn’t really have nobody I felt like I could vent to or go to and blow off steam after I lost my BIGMA. Aside from already trying to keep my moma happy by keeping my grades up it was hard to focus on that with the everyday life that comes with growing up in Memphis. It was never music that really inspired me to even be interested in doing music, it took me seeing my older brother Q Muny sitting downstairs at the desktop writing over a beat talking about what was going on around us in that time , from guns and gang violence to the struggling for me to really look at music as a way to get off my chest what I we was going through. Then I found out we could get paid off our music and it clicked, I ain’t want to do nun else but hustle and use music to get my family out the hood and inna better position in life. I used to always write when I could after that but we moved around so much growing up I would lose so much written music and I could never really connect with people who could help me make an actual song until I got older but up until then life was lifeing. At 16 I made my first song and was dropping on SoundCloud before I got curious and looked up how to actually get paid off my music and dove into it.
What do you love most about your profession?
I luv the Journey, I luv where it takes me, I luv the open range of creativity I have and the freedom I feel when I’m in the booth. I luv what it teaches me about not only myself but about others and how they think and move according to what works better for them. I luv the people I’ve met so far doing music that have taught me lessons in life, engineering, and music business. I’ve attracted like minded people and opportunities and can’t wait to see what else it has in store for me and the ones I have around me that joined me on this mission to use our gift to help position our families in better living.
Tell us more about what you do?
I’m an artist/songwriter , an elevating audio engineer, and a CEO of my growing brand & business called EBTWORLDWIDE – EBT stands for Eat Better Together we believe Unity without Greed and change the world so we preach progression into poverty stricken communities we try to provide opportunities to the youth and others around us that we didn’t have growing up in the trenches, we want to teach them about financial literacy generational wealth and ownership, we standing on business. We Pro Unity for our people and want to plant that seed of Luv back into out roots and lay down the train tracks for the next generations to follow so they don’t end up in the same Cycle we had to survive and fight to get out of. Using music as a channel to connect with the bigger audience to do so.
When did you discover that you had a passion for this field?
2017 I was homeless in Houston sleeping in my old apartments laundry room but recording at my potna Caleb Collins home studio in that same apts. when I felt the sense of freedom in the studio for the first time and felt like nothing else I was going through existed when in that booth and I could let it all out that’s when I decided to use my gift to help myself & family elevate and truly over time grew a passion for it.
Who in your field do you look up to inspire to be like or admire and why?
I wouldn’t say I look up to them it’s more they motivate me if anything and I’d have to say My moma, brothers and potnas around me day for day when we out here getting to it tryna reach similar goals. My Brother Q Muny is a raw hustler any way you cut the cake he gone get to a bag and take care of his family and I definitely admire that about him, he’s taught me a lot growing up even just by watching him grow. My bruddas Dflowers, Pauly, Eddie and Drippy definitely Showed me countless of times that it’s different levels to Luv and Loyalty no matter how long y’all locked in or how far apart you are from each other if it’s genuine then it’s overstood & undying. I can’t even name all the situations we’ve been through together that kept us sharpening each other weather it was skill wise, perspectives, financially, life or death situations or family we always stood firm and beside one another, it’s some real soldiers around me and yea we all do music amongst other things. Then there’s the strongest women in the world to me my Moma, if Never quit was a person it’s always her, Raising 3 kids while still helping others on her own with little to no help outside of us but we was kids and she used to always tell us just go to school and everything is going to be okay, despite us not having much to eat and the water was shut off in the house she Kept us going, especially me. She’s always been hard on a nigga but she definitely my Queen and taught me so much through tough love about not giving up on what I want out of life because anything is possible if you work hard enough to go get it and keep God first. That woman is every bit of the determination and drive I got that keeps me going.
None of us would be where we are today if it wasn’t for some form of mentorship or free game being dropped on us. What gems do you have to give to someone looking to get into your field?
When you jump into these waters they Deep, educate yourself on the business of it so you don’t drown and don’t be scared to branch out and learn different skills and techniques to make yourself an asset to many while building your team. A Jack of all trades is a master of none but a Jack of all trades is still better than a master of one. Be the best you and own yo craft then experiment and evolve. Be Different.
How was it growing up? Was it always or were there struggles? What are some of the struggles you had to overcome?
Fast, I definitely had to learn to adapt quick to new environments , the new people, the new culture, etc. cuz we moved around the city, in and out the state back and forth a lot, but before that it was hard growing up in Memphis with everything going on we couldn’t stay kids mentally for long, but I’d say it was really an average life of a kid growing up in poverty stricken environments tryna make a way out with they family. The schools was messed up, it was and still is High crime rate but I done played both sides of it being in the mix and being out the way. Growing up we fought a lot, it used to be gang shit, School Vs. School, neighborhood Vs neighborhood I swear we used to be deep mobbing to another school after school or meeting up and we all fought and just brawled because we felt like our school was better or it was a beef going on and we rode for our people like they was riding for theirs. My grades was good but my conduct used to always be jacked up , I stayed fighting or getting into trouble at school cuz folks kept trying me cuz I ain’t have the newest shoes or the freshest haircut cuz hell my moma couldn’t afford all that , she was raising My brother, Me, and My lil sister with little to no help, so when everybody had the new Jays I was rocking Shaqs and And 1’s but I dared And 1 of them niggas to play with me 😂, aside from all that at home I was getting my ass tore up by my moma with belts, extension cords , switches , maneeeee whatever she could get her hands on cuz she didn’t play about school. When we had food, Me and my siblings took turns cooking for the household I been cooking since I was 8, sometimes we had to go over my auntie or my grandma house to cook cuz the water or power was out where we stayed and other times we get sent to friends or family house to eat cuz we didn’t have food for real, most of the time growing up we was in 3-4 family households we stayed with my grandma and granddaddy it was my moma and her kids, my auntie and my cousins, then my uncles it was like 9-12 of us in a one and two bedroom town home and all the kids slept in the living room we shared the blankets and couches and made pallets on the floor until one of our parents saved up enough money to get they own apartment. It done been times we been homeless and sleeping in the car moving around destination to destination, sleeping in hotels as a family while moma worked hard to find a way, in between all this going on I was in the streets tryna figure some out bopping cars and hustling tryna help my moma out cuz I was too young to work at the time. The list can go on forever for real life was crazy.
How important is family and friend support? Do they support your business?
I feel like family and friend support is major key to bring things full circle when you doing anything and having that support from people that’s around you everyday is just extra motivation to keep going and create new ways to do stuff But that’s not always the case often 8 times out of 10 you won’t have that family support it’ll be strangers and new people that become your friends that see yo vision when yo own people don’t and end up helping you get rich or wealthy off your dreams. Family being around you everyday of your life they not able to see you doing things that you see yourself accomplishing until you’ve actually stepped out and achieved it. Me personally I was blessed to have a spiritual magnet that attracts like minded people who tryna build like I am, because we share some of the same struggles coming up and same views morally same time I come from a family where not too many people accomplished much out of life besides making it to see 40 and 50 years of life and maintaining a job for long periods of time or just now starting out on they dreams, but seeing me push so hard and pass milestones in the family they slowly but for surely get on board with what I’m doing, they either buy my brand EBTWorldwide clothing merchandise from me to support or repost my music or events every now and then, it’s definitely coming together.
What would you tell a younger you about life?
Stack your money and invest in yourself and the furtherance of your education of what you wanna do in life, and don’t be scared to branch out and ask for help when you need it for real, you got real friends in ya corner waiting to do just that. And forget these bitches they gonn be there regardless, go get to the bag early.
What would you tell a younger you about life?
Don’t wait on nobody to push forward with what you want to do because where one person isn’t ready to move forward with you the further you get it’ll be someone else ready to add to what your doing and got everything you need to learn how to take what you doing to the next level.
Who inspired you growing up and why?
My city, my struggles, and my environment inspired me to want better than what I came from and My Moma, My Older Brother and My Younger sister showed me no matter how hard life get for us it’s always sunlight and a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of that rainstorm, because it can’t rain forever. My moma instilled never quitting into me, my brother showed me the art of hustling for real and til this day is ain’t nun I can’t get my hands on if I really want it, and lastly my younger sister taught me to be more open to understanding and evaluating my situations instead of moving off impulse cuz it could cost a lot more to fix a mess up than it would to get it right the first time.
