What is your profession?

Artist/ Creative

How did you get into the field that you are in today?

I got into making music at an early age. My parents were both musicians. I grew up around it. Around Freshan year of highshool I took a media class that had a small production studio where I started to make beats. I mostly copied Mac Dre and E-40 beats I liked. From there I began working with local rappers and making beats.

What do you love most about your profession?

What I love most is the flow state while creating. I love that music can completely drown out the outside world while creating it. I don’t think about anything else other than what I’m creating. Total focus.

Tell us more about what you do?

I’m a musician first. I play guitar, keys, drums and can sing. I studied music in college and am finishing my Sonic Arts degree currently. I make beats and song production in most contemporary styles. I take pride in hand craftsmanship and building what the artist needs from scratch.

When did you discover that you had a passion for this field?

I discovered the passion for production in my teens and it’s never left.

Who in your field do you look up to inspire to be like or admire and why?

In my opinion the greatest producers of all time are Quincy Jones, he didn’t make his first hit until age 50, but that hit was Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Prince, because he played 30 instruments and was a musical genius. Trent Reznor for his sound design contribution to the world of synth. Dj Quick & Battlecat for their contribution to the formation of the classic westcoast sound. Zapp & Roger for them creating the digital funk that created a platform for Rap Beats. At this point, there’re too many without stating the obvious, Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, etc. Teddy Riley also.

None of us would be where we are today if it wasn’t for some form of mentorship or free game being dropped on us. What gems do you have to give to someone looking to get into your field?

In the beginning, love your craft. Practice it daily. Once you believe it’s ready to be shared, share it everywhere. So so as much as possible as often as possible until something works. Once that one sound works, make more of it. Work work work, but not just on anything. Make sure it’s the sound the people want, work until you achieve a sound they want. Pay attention to feedback and analytics, but don’t let the negativity get you down. You have to believe.

How was it growing up? Was it always or were there struggles? What are some of the struggles you had to overcome?

I think everybody struggles in their own way. Life is subjective. One person’s “easy ride” might really be hard for them in their reality. I feel like growing up is learning from our parents and teachers how to live in the world. Then maturing is “unlearning” a lot of the misinformation they taught us.

How important is family and friend support? Do they support your business?

Most people support me in my endeavors. If they don’t, it’s fine because I’ve created a life that’s separate from other people’s opinions. I am autonomous.

What would you tell a younger you about life?

Not everyone deserves you.

Who inspired you growing up and why?

I had a big homie that taught me the ropes and kept me safe as I was venturing out into the world. He taught me how to move and how to read people’s intentions through their hidden words, body language and actions. there’re friends for a reason, friends for a season, and friends for a lifetime. They’re all important.
